Something New to Dive About

For the scuba diving enthusiasts there is something new to see under the water at  Lake Ore-Be-Gone.
The Tall Pines Scuba Club of Virginia, lowered two old rail speeders cars into the depths of the lake. The 2 speeders cars were donated by Minntac Mining Company of Mt. Iron.
The cars were thoroughly cleaned and lowered about 40 feet onto a platform. A great addition to the diving pleasures of Lake-Ore-Be-Gone.
Recently several new items have been added to the underwater park. A small plane, small helicopter, Viet Nam Era Huie Helicopter, small bus. A map has been placed on the changing room that shows the location of these items and all are marked by buoys.
Thanks to Rick and his groups from Tall Pine Scuba this has become a real "Dive Destination".

Iron Range Historical Society
The Iron Range Historical society has opened a museum in the old Gilbert City Hall. Photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia reflect the area's heritage. There is also a research room filled with historical books for those interested in researching their family tree.

Welcome Signs
The City of Gilbert has installed new metal welcome signs along Broadway just in time for the anticipated influx of people into the City for the Independence Celebration on the 3rd and 4th of July. The new signs have replaced the wood signs which have been in place for a number of years. Those signs were becoming weather-beaten and in need of renovation. The City decided to replace the wood signs with metal ones so that they would be more durable and less maintenance over the years. The "welcome" signs, located on the light standards all along the main street of Gilbert are imprinted with a statement or word of welcome in various languages of the ethnic groups represented among the early settlers on the Iron Range and especially in the Gilbert Community . In all, there are a dozen signs greeting residence and visitors as they pass along Broadway. Among the languages represented are
        Italian - Benvenuti
        Polish-Vitanie
        Finnish-Tervetuloa
        Slovenian - Dobro-dosli
        Hungarian - Pozadany
The new signs communicate this communities pride in the diverse ethnic heritage of the Iron Range.
